Keb Mo and Anders Osborne

On their way to New Orleans,
Keb Mo and Anders Osborne made a stop in Lafayette, LA.
They truly put on an epic performance at AcA!
The band was awesome and especially Kevin So on keyboard made a phenomenal impression!!
It was the first time for me to enjoy a performance at AcA,
which makes for a first class venue!
Sorry for the poor quality photo, (iPhone).

Gaywynn enriched the house with this beautiful painting by Elemore Morgan Jr.
The painting shows the house the Morgans once lived in.
It found a perfect spot on the bedroom wall, right by the window.
Anytime the sunlight peeks through the window,
it seems the colors in the painting come to life....

New Beginnings...

A new year has started and as always I am in favor of starting a new chapter!
LSU, UL-Lafayette and the Saints have had an incredible run and I am proud of how they performed, in spite of how LSU and the Saints finished.
A lot of "what ifs" will remain, yet their records speak for themselves...
At least they provided for good news coming forth out of Louisiana!

I look forward to the new and truly hope 2012 will make for a wonderful year.
Next week will be fun, first seeing and hearing Keb Mo live at the AcA.
Then a weekend in New Orleans, which will make for a first return since hurricane Katrina...
There has not been an apparent reason not to go back, it just so happened.
Hope to post some pictures of those events soon ;)

Koi fish

What Santa brought....
This magnificent painting of Koi fish is now the center piece in the dining room.
It is set in a gorgeous frame, and I will post a better picture later.
Thank you so much Gaywynn!!!

Koi fish are believed to be Chinese in origin but is very well known in Japan. As legend has it, as koi fish swim boldly upstream against the adverse currents on the Yellow River, if it is successful in its attempt to swim up the falls at a certain point known as Dragon Gate, there within the mist of the waters of the falls it is magically transformed into a water dragon. Based upon this, the koi became a status symbol representing strong character, courage, and perseverance in achieving hard to reach goals. Also included within these traits is the drive to attain worldly success and advancement, even under trying conditions and against all odds.

Triumph Thruxton

It looks like my God-Child and nephew Niels is following his God-Father's
dreams! Santa was so kind to leave this beauty at Niels' house Christmas morning. In the old days I loved to take my Triumph Bonneville out for a ride. They are great bikes, with a wonderful feel of stability on the road and glued to the road in curves.... I'm so happy for you Niels, just keep the rubber down... ;-)

Like on all their Modern Classics, Triumph uses the consecrated air-cooled, 865cc, DOHC, parallel-twin motor which is fuel-injected for those same models, including the Thruxton. What’s the best of this bike is the racing heritage that comes with the name. That same heritage determined British engineers to get the most out of the engine – 68bhp at 7,400 rpm and 51ft.lbf at 5,800 rpm – and call this their sportiest timeless machine.

The engine carries on being mated to the five-speed gearbox while the right rider side X-ring chain is no only one of the manufacturer’s characteristics, but also the appropriate type for a motorcycle claimed to perform as good as it looks.

2010 Triumph Thruxton
Both the frame and the swingarm are made out of tubular steel so at least we have what to blame for the 506 lbs wet weight of this piece of history. The standard spoked 18-inch front, 17-inch rear wheels remain faithful to the 1960s style, but the braking system featuring a 320mm floating disc and two piston calipers and a single 255mm disc with two piston caliper is as modern as they get.

We could just say that about the suspension package as the 41mm preload adjustable forks are anyway but vintage, while the chromed spring twin shocks with adjustable preload sure look like total opposite, but still get the job done. Thruxton’s sporty handling is ensured by a 27 degree rake and 97mm trail, but the bike’s low center of gravity and the 84.6 inches overall length are no disadvantages either.

What’s the best of this bike is that it has been looking and performing like this for decades, the only things that Triumph took care of through years being easily called details.

Yakima Roof Top Bike Rack

After having been invited to a group ride for a photo shoot for Bicycle Magazine last Thursday, I realized I've got to get myself in shape again! The group of 10 consisted out of 9 stellar athletes and 1 guy who has been having way too many excuses NOT to get on his bike on a regular base, (yours truly). It turned out to be a 40 mile ride and halfway my quadriceps started to let me know how much I've dropped in shape and endurance.

In order to make bike transport easier, I ordered a Yakima bike rack, just to make it easier to get myself and my bike to Red's and rejoin the Saturday morning rides again. Precision Bikes placed the order on last Wednesday and the Yakima was installed today!!! Speaking of "Get Fast"!
I'm very grateful to Mark Miller and Precision Bikes for their excellent service. Hopefully I'll be back in the shape I was prior to my crash in the Vuelta de Acadiana Race 2009.....

Heberts Specialty Meats

Decided last Sunday to change up the traditional Thanksgiving menu...
Hopped in the car and headed South on 167 to Hebert's Specialty Meats, in Maurice.
The picture tells what kind of production was going on!
Got a marinated pork-roast, crawfish stuffed rabbit,
2 stuffed deboned chickens, (one eggplant, the other crawfish) and a side of cornbread dressing.
The roast was prepped and found its way to the slow-cooker,
along with potatoes, carrots and celery and was consumed that same day!
The chickens will make their way to the dining table on Thanksgiving day, accompanied by the cornbread dressing and green bean casserole.
